Learning Resource Centre
The Learning Resource Centre is staffed by Mrs Prowse, the Learning Resource Centre Manager and by Mrs Phillips.
The LRC holds over 10,000 resources including: fiction titles for all reading abilities, non-fiction books to support the curriculum, non-fiction titles to support students’ extra curricular and leisure interests, newspapers & magazines, careers material and a small number of audio books and DVDs. There are 15 computers with access to the Internet & Internet-based learning resources, and an additional 20 netbook computers.
All students have access to the LRC during break & lunch-times and after school. Sixth form students are able to use the LRC for quiet study throughout the day.
Monday to Thursday after school until 4pm when learning support assistants are available to assist students with homework.
Students are issued with a LRC card enabling them to borrow up to 4 items for 2 weeks. Items may be renewed if not reserved by another pupil. Students may suggest items that they would like to see added to stock.
The LRC aims to promote reading for pleasure & to raise the profile of reading. Mrs Prowse regularly organizes reader development activities such as book fairs, reading trails and competitions, author visits etc and provides classroom book boxes. LRC staff are always happy to assist students in the selection of reading material.
Oliver the LRC Management Software
Students have access in school to OLIVER, the computerised catalogue, which they can use to look up the resources that we hold and whether they are available, and to see recent additions to stock. By logging into OLIVER it is possible for students to view their loans and to renew or reserve items.
