Entry Requirements: 

Grade 8 in GCSE Mathematics and
Grade 4 in GCSE English Language or GCSE English Literature

Course Overview:

Students who achieve at Grade 8 or 9 at GCSE Mathematics or achieved a Grade 7+ in GCSE Additional  Mathematics should really be considering this course.  Students must have already chosen or currently studying Level 3 Mathematics as it leads to developing, extending and furthering their understanding beyond the standard A Level Mathematics. As well as learning new areas of Pure Mathematics, students will study further applications of      Mechanics, Statistics and /or Decision. 

This is a challenging course but enjoyable for those students who love Mathematics.

Exam Information: 

Duration: 1 year AS  or 2 years A Level
Exam Board: Edexcel     

Year 1:             Core Pure Mathematics
                         Further Mathematics Option*

Year 2  :            Core Pure Mathematics 1
                         Core Pure Mathematics 2

Further Mathematics Option 1* 
Further Mathematics Option 2* 

*The option modules can be selected to best suit the skills and interests of the student

Qualification Gained: 

AS Level in year 1
A Level in year 2 -  In order to progress onto the 2nd year students must achieve a grade D at AS Level.

Career Opportunities: 

Although not essential, Further Mathematics is desirable if applying for degrees such as Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Engineering, Physics and Economics. Further Mathematics is universally recognised by employers and universities as a advanced and challenging course.
