This qualification is for students who have not yet achieved a grade 4 in either GCSE English Language or GCSE Literature.
This course is for those students who have failed to reach a Grade 4 at GCSE Mathematics. Students who also wish to improve their GCSE grade can also retake however this will be discussed on individual cases. The course reinforces and builds upon the mathematics knowledge that students have gained at school.
Students who have a Grade 2 or below will follow the EDEXCEL Functional Skills course which will lead to a Level 2 qualification. This is assessed with two written examinations, one calculator and one non-calculator. The examination can be taken several times throughout the year.

Those students who achieved a Grade 3 at GCSE Mathematics will be given the option to enter in November.

Most employers, colleges and universities will require all students to have achieved a Grade 4 or even a grade 5 in GCSE Mathematics. This course is also important for those students who need to improve their foundations at GCSEs so they can progress on Level 3 qualifications.
