Course Overview: 

The level 2 Public service course provides the ideal stepping stone into a wide range of exciting careers in the public services, including the Army and police force. You will benefit from the expertise of teachers who also have backgrounds in the armed forces and other Public services. Our strong links with the armed forces and emergency services enable you to take part in relevant visits and activities during your course, giving you valuable insight into the kind of work your chosen career might include. You will need a good standard of English to communicate with members of the public and to write-up notes and reports. You will participate in Role plays and learn teamwork skills as well as taking on leadership roles within a team. You will learn a variety of personal skills which are used in the Public services. You will learn about Law and how it affects individuals within the Public services and how crime affects society and the impact of funding on each sector. You will investigate different job roles available within Public Services and analyse the different recruitment processes each service uses. What job opportunities are available? The level 2 course within this pathway are designed for anyone wanting to develop a career in the armed forces or public sector. Once you complete the level 2 course you will have a solid grounding in careers in:  The Prison Service, Armed Forces, Emergency services Police, Fire and Ambulance service, The Civil Service.

Duration: 1 year    
Exam Board: Pearson                                   

There is a one hour externally assessed exam* and three internally assessed coursework modules.

Unit 1: The Role and Work of the Public Services* 

Unit 2: Working Skills in the Public Service Sector

Unit 3: Employment in the Public Services

Unit 4: Public Services and Community Protection

Qualification Gained: 

BTEC Level 1/2 First Award in Public Services

Career Opportunities: 

The public services qualification can be used as a launch pad into the public sector; such as nursing, police, fire service or local government.
