Accelerated Reader at ICC

At the start of the autumn term, all years 7-9 students sit a 20-minute STAR test on the computer; this gives us specific information regarding your child’s reading ability. The STAR test will be taken 4 times throughout the year so we can measure reading progress.

The STAR test generates a reading range for each student, e.g. 4.0-7.0. Students must read books within their reading range. If your child would like to read a book that is above their reading range, they must speak to their class teacher; they will use their professional judgement to decide whether the book is suitable or not.

Every book that is in the Accelerated Reader scheme will have a coloured sticker on the spine linked to their reading range:

Brown

Green

Blue

Yellow

0.1-1.9

2.0-2.9

3.0-3.9

4.0-4.9

5.0-5.9

6.0-6.9

7.0-7.9

8.0- 12.0

Once a student has finished their book, they must take a quiz on it to see how much they have understood. Quizzes can be taken at school or at home.

To access our school specific link, please follow these instructions:

  1. Click on the school specific link: https://global-zone61.renaissance-go.com/educatorportal/home
  2. Enter the school ID (if asked): RP-17323803
  3. Login using your username and password (please contact your English teacher or Ms Green (MGR) if you don’t know your login details).

Upon finishing the test, a score out of 100% will be given. If your child consistently scores below 80% in their AR tests, they will be encouraged to read a book that has a lower reading range or one that is shorter as they may be struggling to remember what they have read.

How do I know if a book is part of AR? Simply go to AR Bookfind UK (https://www.arbookfind.co.uk/)  and type in the title, author etc. You may already have lots of AR books at home without realising!

Students can also use the ICC online catalogue to search for Accelerated Reader books; the catalogue can be accessed from school and home. Our school specific link is here: https://uk.accessit.online/ifl00/
