Chemists use their knowledge and experiments to understand the world around us, and link the physical and applied sciences. Without chemistry, there would be no medicine, cleaning products, clothes, jewellery or plastics to name a few… We can answer questions like, “Why does ice float?” “How can I create substances for this purpose?” If this sounds appealing to you, Chemistry is a great choice!
The course covers the key concepts of chemistry and practical skills are integrated throughout the course. Content covers organic, inorganic and physical chemistry topics. You will learn to investigate, challenge and solve problems in a range of contexts, considering the impact on industry and many aspects of everyday life

Exam Board: OCR
Chemistry is a linear course, with 3 exams at the end of the second year.
Students will sit mock exams at the end of the first year.
The exams are: 1. Periodic table, elements and physical chemistry
2. Synthesis and analytical techniques
3. Unified chemistry

Chemistry often requires teamwork and good communication, which is useful in most careers and management roles. Chemistry is useful for any student wanting to go into any STEM career.
