Entry Requirements
Grade 4 in GCSE English Language or GCSE English Literature
Course Overview
This course is broken down into four units:
Unit 1: Changing awareness of crime—This examines different types of crime, influences on perceptions of crime and why some crimes are unreported.
Unit 2: Criminological theories— This unit draws upon unit 1 and investigates the different reasons why someone might commit a crime
Unit 3: Crime scene to courtroom—This unit will provide an understanding of the criminal justice system from the moment a crime has been identified to the verdict.
Unit 4: Crime and punishment—This final unit will ask you to apply your understanding of the awareness of criminality, criminological theories and the process of bringing an accused to court in order to evaluate the effectiveness of social control to deliver criminal justice policy
Exam Information
There is a combination of internal and external examination for this course. All units are equally weighted at 25%.
Unit 1 and Unit 3:Internally assessed written tasks
Unit 2 and Unit: Externally assessed with one 90 minute exam per unit

WJEC Level 3 Applied Diploma
Career Opportunties
This is a diverse course with links to lots of different topics. It is particularly useful for a future in areas such as social work, policing, psychology, criminal justice, policy making, National Probation Service, and the Courts and Tribunals Service.
